Statement

My art explores the relationship between street art and abstract cubism. I like to overlap shapes of contrasting colors, combined with both classical and contemporary imagery. It is important to me that stylistically, my abstract cubism is distinctive and always evolving outside of the box. My work varies from complete abstraction to deconstructed letter forms and classical still life. I love the play between the old and new.

Biography

John Oz was born in 1970 and raised in Philadelphia. The city's graffiti streets became his inspiration catalyst. Known as Semet One in Philadelphia and around the world, he developed a love affair with graffiti that continues to be seen in his work. John's artistic style has evolved from graffiti lettering to abstract cubism.
It is John's belief that cubist forms and graffiti share many similarities. Seeking new combinations on busy worked surfaces, he uses spray paint, charcol, and acrylics to creat objects and letter forms in a conceptual approach.
John attended community college of Philadelphia and continued his studies at Temple's Tyler School of Art.
